WHY WE DON'T DISCIPLINE EVERYONE

December 8, 2022

1 Kings 1:5-6 "About that time David's son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, "I will make myself king." So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him. Now, his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, "Why are you doing that?" Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome." (KJV)

If you have ever been a part of a family, a workplace, or any other form of structure; you probably have observed how people senior to you treat everyone they lead. To some, they are tough. To others, they are permissive, and to others, they avoid them all together. However, all these expressions tell a lot about how the leader perceives those he leads.

The verse teaches us that David never disciplined Adonijah for his wrongdoings. This is a very powerful lesson in the area of leadership. Not everyone who learns from you is cut from the same cloth. Therefore, you cannot go about disciplining them.

Rebuke is a precious lesson to only the wise; never accord it recklessly.

You must understand that David knew the end of Adonijah, for God had spoken to him that his son Solomon would be king after him. When you know the end of a man, you know what to say to them. This explains why wise men can rebuke those with reason and ignore those without destiny. Despise not the rebuking of those above you. They are more than rebuking; but they are a confirmation that you are in line for the throne.
