WHEN MEN SEE GOD

January 6, 2023

Luke 2:36-37 "There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying." (KJV)

A few people in this life have truly had an encounter with our Lord Jesus. It's one thing for men to claim they are born again; it's another for them to experience God on a personal level. So many approach clergymen seeking to find encounters and learn how to encounter God.

The verse tells of one Anna, who was a prophet that only was married for seven years as a young woman, and she remained unmarried for a long time. The bible does not say she ever questioned God. It also does not say she prayed to be married again; but it tells us that she never left the temple; she never stopped praying and fasting. What a lady! what a life and what a devotion she was to God; that we see one day she was able to meet the messiah in the temple.

Seeking God is not a party of the self-confident but an experience of selfless seekers.

I know many people who would rather live without prayer because they lost a husband, who would rather not pray because someone offended them in the temple. This type of half-baked Christianity is the reason why many people's faith waxed cold. We need to seek God beyond what he can give us. We need to seek God beyond what he can explain to us. God is big; he can choose to make you a widow, and he remains God.

Oh Lord, break us one more time. Reveal through us a kind of grace that you showed Anna.
