This is one of the most abused scriptures in the entire Bible. Most people who are not educated in understanding the prophetic ministry have for many years interpreted this verse to mean everyone who can accurately foretell events and is wealthy, is a soothsayer. This is a shallow way of interpreting scripture. In these next weeks, I will take you through a journey to understand the prophetic ministry and how it differs from divination.
There are key things to note here in this verse;
A) Paul and his team were on their way to prayer. The young lady who was possessed by the divination spirit was not going for prayer. The Spirit of Divination has nothing to do with prayer.
B) The young lady was a slave girl, she brought gain to her masters. The Prophetic Ministry does not serve people; it has its source from God. (Rev 19:10) The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Therefore, for a teacher to confuse his congregation that every man who accurately sees and seems to be successful financially, and is blessed by those who follow him has the spirit of divination is to be shallow minded. The Spirit of Divination only foretells what is pleasing to the hearer. It never rebukes nor corrects. This is why Paul, who carried the true spirit of prophecy, cast out this unclean spirit.
Notice also that the spirit of divination brought gain by soothsaying(fortune telling). For those who may not know the difference. Fortune telling involves the use of items, invoking spirits, and reading Heavenly bodies. These are unclean practices because they have to do with accessing dark spirit to see. A true prophet never engages in unclean practices. Child of God, never set yourself against a true servant of God because you are not educated enough to know the difference. To be continued, schooling the body of Christ.
Hallelujah. Amen
