Philippians 3:9 “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:” (KJV)

Of recent days, certain of the believers because of cropping teachers, seem to have fallen back into the old life of living in works; where by they have sought to live a life from the outside - in instead of from the inside - out. The challenge with external works is that it gives temporal gratification of being righteous but does not deal with fundamental inadequacies of the human life.

The verse shows us that Paul speaking to the Phillipians, expresses himself as one that does not want to find himself in his own righteousness, that is of the law; but with that which is of God by faith. Child of God, there is a big difference between your own righteousness and the righteousness of God by faith.

The righteousness of God produces humility and dependency on God, but the righteousness of man produces self righteousness and pride.

You can know a man has worked his own righteousness by his confidence in his own abilities and the boasting that comes with castigating those he deems sinful. It’s important for every believer to rediscover the true gospel of our Lord Jesus that produces life.
