Topic : The Absolute Authority of Jesus Christ Over All
Philippians 2:9–11 “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (KJV)
The Lordship of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith and the seal of His identity as Savior and King. To call Him “Lord” is not a casual confession but a recognition of His supreme ownership, authority, and dominion over every sphere of existence. The name “Jesus” declares His saving mission, but the title “Lord” declares His eternal reign.
When we confess Christ as Lord, we acknowledge that He is not only the Lamb who died but also the Lion who rules. He is the Master of creation, the Head of the Church, and the Judge of all the earth. His Lordship extends beyond personal devotion—it encompasses governments, kingdoms, nature, and eternity itself.
The Lordship of Christ is revealed in three powerful ways:
1. Redemptive Lordship – He purchased us with His own blood (1 Corinthians 6:20). We no longer belong to ourselves; we are His possession. His Lordship is not oppressive but liberating, for He frees us from the bondage of sin and leads us into righteousness.
2. Practical Lordship – To call Him Lord means to yield every decision, plan, and desire under His command. It is not lip service but life surrender. Jesus asked, “Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). His Lordship demands obedience.
3. Eternal Lordship – Whether men acknowledge Him or not, His Lordship is irreversible. In time and in eternity, all knees shall bow. The atheist, the ruler, the rebel, and the saint will all confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. His reign is everlasting.
To embrace the Lordship of Jesus is to align your life with His perfect will. It is to dethrone self and enthrone Christ. It is to live not by your agenda but by His Kingdom mandate. The Lordship of Jesus is not negotiable—it is absolute, and it is the believer’s honor to submit joyfully under His rule.
