THE FEAR OF THE WISE vs THE CONFIDENCE OF FOOLS

November 28, 2022

Proverbs 14:16 "The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence." (NLT)

Have you ever wondered why wise/older people have few words and tend to be more understanding and less judgemental? That's because they through wisdom and experience have learnt to understand the mysterious ways of God, that sometimes wisdom looks like folly and folly may appear wise.

The verse teaches that the wise are cautious to avoid danger, but fools have reckless confidence. There are things you hear a man said and you can tell it's only by folly that one can open their mouth in like manner.

Confidence is not a validation of wisdom.

Most times the man who is apologetic and simple carries great wisdom. It takes wisdom to be cautious, that's why it is impossible for wise people to be taken by surprise. Wisdom teaches them that all things are possible. Surprise is an element of folly. Never make a move just because you have confidence in it, it takes more than human confidence to know what is right to do.
