One of the things you must stay clear from as a Christian whilst serving God is the urge to build a personal life. There is a place for personal pursuits and there is a place for Godly pursuits. Many people do not have the wisdom to balance a spiritual life with earthly cares. Therefore, they find themselves unable to grow in the vocation of the spirit.
The verse is very clear, God cannot be mocked. What a man sows in is what he reaps. When the scripture says he that sows in the spirit, he is speaking of one that tends God’s work. This explains why you find believers who panic in the midst of serving God, and return to the average life of a normal man who wakes up to seek food.
Serve God so that the crown you desire will be the crown that you receive.
Most believers serve God out of convenience, the crown of righteousness comes with the grace to endure and the wisdom to serve God without worrying about what he will make you physically. Never alter spiritual patterns for temporary goals, assuming that after you achieve that which is physical you will then return to do that which is spiritual. There is wisdom in serving God at the state of life he gave you. As you pray, pray against the spirit of fear and ask God to give you the wisdom to balance your spiritual call with the your earthly life.
