DEBTORS TO GOD

March 13, 2023

Topic: Putting To Death The Sinful Nature
Romans 8:12 "So then, brethren, we are debtors, but not to the flesh [we are not obligated to our carnal nature], to live [a life ruled by the standards set up by the dictates] of the flesh." (KJV)

A Christian is not obligated to live his life by the flesh. You do not have to do everything your flesh feels like doing. It's the carnal man that does whatever his flesh dictates. If his flesh wants to booze, he gives in. If his flesh, has no choice but to live that way. The child of God, on the other hand, has power over his own flesh.

The verse teaches us to be independent of the flesh, knowing that if we are debtors; it is not to the flesh but to God. When you learn that you do not owe your flesh everything it desires, you will continue to struggle in certain areas in life.

The greatest victory of the believer is putting to death the flesh.

I have seen people change jobs thinking their job was the problem. Some do change environments, thinking it was the environment that was toxic. While this at times is true, the majority of the struggling individuals have not learnt to put to death the ways of the flesh.
