Proverbs 13:10 “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”

One time I took it upon myself to study the concept of contention. The word contention means strife, disagreement, rivalry, fight. I noticed that there are people who disagree with everyone in their life. Whether it’s those above them or peers or strangers. They cannot keep friends, relationships, family or mentors. Every year, they are working on a new circle. They are always on the move from one work place to another, one church to another; some even from one religion to another. They seem to even have issues with God himself.

Until I studied (Proverbs 13:10) and realized that only by pride does contention come. Notice that he uses the word ONLY. This means nothing else will ever cause a man to disagree with another except pride. I understood that all relationships that had lasted through time had been because men had purposed to exhibit wisdom.

The biggest problem with contentious pride is that it cannot be advised.

When you read the verse further, it explains that the well advised have wisdom. This means that there is always an escape route from this contentious pride and it comes with advice. Wisdom is a crown of the humble who through their desire to increase, find advice.

Prophetic Declarations

Heavenly Father, we thank you because you have given us wisdom to escape contentious pride. That through your word, counsel might be unto us a reward. AMEN
