ACCOUNTABILITY

September 7, 2023

Topic: The Pursuit of False Freedom
Genesis 4:9 "And the LORD said unto Cain, Where [is] Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: [Am] I my brother's keeper?" (KJV)

One of the greatest things in life is accountability. This is what has built many giants. All great people had some sort of report mechanism where they accounted to someone greater until they themselves were great.

However, the verse shows us a man called Cain, who, by reason of sin and pride, got tired of being questioned. Most people who eventually destroy their lives find accountability as some sort of slavery or prison. Not knowing this desire to be independent is an old spirit of confusion that has been in this world from the beginning.

Better the prison of accountability than the freedom of destruction.

Jesus knew the power of this principle when he told Peter that once a man is old, he needs someone to take him by the hand and guide him where he doesn't want to go. Just because you can choose a mentor does not mean that anyone can be your mentor.

Most people are not called to be mentors or fathers. If the person you account to gives you liberty and your accountability feels light, you probably just walked out of divine order. Accountability has never been made to make you feel better but to make you better.
