Giving today has become an issue of convenience rather than an issue of principle. Because of this mindset, I know ministers who actually do not even give but yet receive from people. It is this confusion that began to even cause people to start teaching things like tithing is not in the New Testament. Offering should be given to the poor. All these teachings and understanding come from a poor outlook on the issue of giving. To these individuals, giving is an issue of choice.
The scripture shows us the principle of giving. It says the measure with which a man gives is the measure with which men will give back to him. This is beyond tithing or offerings. When a man's heart is not proper towards giving, it becomes hard to give. Consequently, he finds a way to devalue principles such as tithe or offering.
The reason the new testament does not particularly address tithe is because giving depends on the heart.
Most givers give above and beyond tithes because they understand the principle. A man who consumes everything he makes eventually removes the protection of God upon his own substance. This is what brings loans, struggles, sickness, and uncertain calamities. This is because man was never meant to consume everything he makes. There is a blessing to being a giver.
